Wagga Wagga City Council's Development Assessment and Building Certification division is continuing to achieve goals and implement strategies to improve service delivery, as outlined in a report presented to Council on Monday.
A Service Review of the division was commissioned by Council in 2024 to determine its efficiency in the face of increasing workloads, skills shortages, and the need to ensure sustainable service delivery.
The Service Review aimed to identify challenges, improve operational efficiency, strengthen accountability, and embed a culture of continuous improvement.
An evaluation of the Service Review to-date was presented to Council at its Ordinary Meeting on Monday night (15 December 2025).
Manager Development Assessment and Building Certification Cameron Collins said the ddivision is achieving the goals set out in 2024.
"Over the past 12 months, the Development Assessment and Building Certification division has achieved progress with regard to the 11 recommendations set out in the Service Review undertaken in September 2024," Mr Collins said.
"This includes improvements in operational efficiency, customer experience, workforce capability, financial management, and internal systems and processes.
"In addition, Wagga Wagga City Council's Development Assessment and Building Certification division is one of the fastest in the state for Development Application (DA) turnaround, with an average of 45 days for residential type developments and an 85 per cent of those DAs meeting expectation."
Areas identified as requiring further improvement include strengthening service delivery, improving systems and procedures, building staff capability, ensuring legislative compliance and maintaining sound financial management.
Council noted the progress the division has made in implementing the recommendations of the Service Review and supported the next steps identified to further strengthen service delivery, and processes.
A further evaluation of the Service Review will be undertaken in mid-2026 to monitor ongoing progress.
