The Andrews Labor Government is delivering infrastructure upgrades in Melton, Melton South and Harkness as part of the Growing Suburbs Fund.
The Minister for Local Government Marlene Kairouz today turned the first sod on four new community infrastructure projects that will deliver new playgrounds, picnic and barbecue shelters, paths, toilets and forests.
The Minister marked the first stage of the $8 million MacPherson park redevelopment, which will deliver a multipurpose community pavilion with 10 fully accessible and gender equitable change rooms, as well as new playing surfaces, a new entry road and car parking.
MacPherson Park is an important community and recreational reserve for people across the municipality and the region. This project is the first stage of a $35 million master plan the City of Melton has for the park.
This project will be delivered in partnership with the City of Melton, which has received $2 million from the Labor Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.
The Labor Government is also contributing $1.2 million to projects at Hannah Watts Park, Bill Cahill Reserve and Arnolds Creek Recreation Reserve. The City of Melton is contributing $1.39 million to the three projects.
Work on Stage 1 of each of the projects is due for completion in 2019.
The City of Melton has been awarded almost $19 million over the last three years to help deliver 17 vital community projects for the municipality.
The Labor Government has provided $200 million through the Growing Suburbs fund to improve local infrastructure like family, community and town centres, and deliver civic and open space revitalisation projects.
These projects improve the amenity, liveability and resilience of local communities, and support local jobs.
