Burglary, Kangaroo Point

A woman has been charged after allegedly stealing a car and crashing it through the wall of a unit block at Kangaroo Point early this morning.

It will be alleged the woman broke into an Elliott Street unit and took the keys to a Toyota Hilux around 12.30am.

A 31-year-old male resident heard the vehicle start and ran outside, jumping in the rear tray of the ute in an attempted to prevent its theft.

The woman then allegedly drove the vehicle back and forth, crashing through a wall into a lounge of another unit in the complex before reversing and fleeing the scene.

The male resident managed to jump from the rear of the ute and avoid serious injury.

It is further alleged that as the woman drove away she crashed the stolen vehicle into a vacant building on Thomas Street and fled on foot.

Police attended the scene and conducted an immediate search of the area, arresting a 24-year-old woman around 1am at the corner of Main and Pearson Streets, still allegedly in possession of property stolen from the unit.

The woman was taken to hospital for further assessment before being charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, enter dwelling with intent by break, stealing and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving unlicensed (disqualified) burglary and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.

She is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today (June 2).
