Burnie Court another bungled project

Tasmanian Labor

The Burnie Court upgrade is another project that can be added to the Gutwein Government's long list of infrastructure failures.

Labor Member for Braddon Anita Dow said it was over three years since Attorney General Elise Archer promised a $15 million upgrade to the court.

"In 2018 the Liberals promised $15 million to redevelop the current Burnie Court site in the Burnie CBD," Ms Dow said.

"Now three years later and with no progress made, it has been revealed that the cost has nearly tripled to $40 million.

"This is simply ridiculous and this crucial project has become another victim of the government's gobsmacking inability to deliver projects."

Ms Dow said this project showed the government's unwillingness to genuinely engage with the community on key projects.

"Residents, legal professionals and business owners are concerned about the proposed site and feel the Attorney General has been completely dismissive of their concerns.

"Why has the cost blown out so significantly? And when will Ms Archer finally decide to engage in good faith with the local community?

"Ms Archer has shown a careless disregard for the concerns of the community regarding this project.

"The Attorney General should listen to the community's concerns and keep the Burnie Court in the Burnie CBD as Labor has committed to do."
