Bus driver assaulted in Campsie

Police are investigating after a bus driver was assaulted in Campsie overnight, NSW Police say.

About 9.10pm today, police and emergency services were called to Beamish Street, near North Parade following reports of an assault.

Police were told two men, only described as being of Pacific Islander / Maori appearance; approached the 37-year-old driver who was sitting on a bench next to the parked bus.

The men became abusive towards the driver before one of the men punched the driver in the jaw.

The two men left the scene and were last seen walking south on Beamish Street.

The driver was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and was taken to Canterbury Hospital as a precaution.

A crime scene was established with several exhibits secured for forensic analysis.
