Bus driver charged - Menai

A bus driver has been charged after allegedly allowing a member of the public to drive his vehicle.

On Tuesday 29 March 2022, officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation after receiving reports a bus driver had allowed a member of the public to operate his vehicle with passengers on board.

Police were told the bus driver allegedly allowed a 16-year-old boy to operate his vehicle on multiple occasions between Thursday 10 March 2022 and Sunday 27 March 2022.

Following inquiries, police attended a home on Carter Road, Menai, about 2pm yesterday (Wednesday 30 March 2022), where they arrested a 25-year-old man.

He was taken to Sutherland Police Station where he was charged with negligently etc move/drive vehicle subject person to risk (three counts) and employ etc unlicensed for Class, Class C, R, LR, MR (three counts).

The man was given conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Thursday 28 April 2022.
