Bushfire Power Outage Leaves Residents Stranded

NSW Nationals

Nationals Member for Myall Lakes, Tanya Thompson, has demanded answers from the Minns Labor Government after a planned nine-hour power outage went ahead last Friday while communities were in the midst of bushfires.

Mrs Thompson said it's unacceptable residents were left without access to internet communication and unable to use water pumps with fires bearing down on their property.

"Cutting rural communities off from safety warnings and taking away the ability to defend their homes during an active bushfire is reprehensible," Mrs Thompson said.

"The Premier and Minister need to urgently explain how and why Essential Energy went ahead with this planned outage."
