Bushfires NT Update On Wildfire In Barkly South

NT Government

Bushfires NT is advising members of the public and landholders across the Barkly and Central Australia regions of Wildfire in the Barkly South region.

Crews are working to contain and control the fire within its current perimeter to prevent further breakouts or escalation. All operational efforts will be directed toward minimising fire spread while ensuring the protection of life, property, infrastructure and environmental assets.

The public are advised that crews are actively working along the Barkly Highway conducting suppression works across the fireground. NT Police are assisting and have closed the 41 Mile Bore Windmill Rest Area on the Barkly Highway as a precautionary measure due to increased fire activity in the area.

Weather conditions in the coming days are forecast to be favourable, supporting continued firefighting efforts.

Members of the public are asked to stay up to date via the Bushfires NT Facebook page, SecureNT website, the NT Fire Incident Map and the NT Road Report.

For the safety of firefighting crews and other vehicles, drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions.

Do not attempt to conduct any fuel reduction or burning activities at this time.
