The Marshall Government has awarded the contracts for the business case development of the remaining section of the North-South Corridor and the investigation into the viability of tunnels.
Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) will develop the business case for the remaining approximately 10.5-kilometre River Torrens to Tonsley Boulevard section of the North-South Corridor.
A team led by SMEC, WSP and Tunnelling Solutions will undertake the technical study to investigate the viability of tunnelling.
"This is the last piece of the of the 78 Kilometre North-South Corridor puzzle, stretching from Gawler to Old Noarlunga," said Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.
"The Marshall Liberal Government committed $5.5 million in our first State Budget to get this business case done and the remaining sections of the North-South Corridor shovel ready.
"We’ve been able to secure a $1.2 billion commitment from the Federal Government to help complete the remaining sections of the North-South Corridor.
"The previous Labor government failed to do this basic preparatory work and business case development which has meant we can’t begin work on the remaining sections as soon as we’d like.
"The Marshall Government is doing the work that Labor never did to finish this project.
"Investing in our roads reduces traffic congestion and travel times and builds a more productive road network for freight and business.
"In our first State Budget we announced a record level of infrastructure spend, with $11.3 billion committed to build productive infrastructure over the next four years.
"We want to continue to build and add more projects to our already strong pipeline of key infrastructure projects to support local jobs and grow our economy.
"Since coming to government, the Marshall Government has already secured $1.8 billion of new Federal Government infrastructure funding for key infrastructure projects.
"We’ve announced that we’ll be delivering key infrastructure projects including the Joy Baluch Bridge, Gawler Line electrification, Port Wakefield project and the Pym Street to Regency section of the North-South Corridor."
