The City of Casey's first Business Coffee Club for 2026 delivered exactly what local business owners were looking for - a cosy room, practical advice and real conversations.
Held at Orana Community Place on Monday 23 February, the session featured finance expert, Sheshan Wickramage from Wick Financial who broke down the best business structure for a small business, pricing strategies and how to decide when to hire a professional versus doing it yourself, all in plain language. Attendees asked a steady stream of questions and left with clear next steps they could apply straight away.
Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said the Coffee Club series remains a simple way Council is supporting local home-based business people.
"Held monthly in different locations across Casey, these events are welcoming, informative and a great place for business owners to build confidence."
Deputy Mayor Cr Crowther, Cr Ross and Cr Walter joined the Coffee Club event and spent time listening, swapping ideas and making introductions.
Cr Crowther reflected on the value of the catch up.
"It can be isolating being a small business owner, especially if you are home based. These events are a great opportunity to connect with like‑minded local people who are facing the same issues. I'd encourage all our home-based business owners to join a meeting and benefit from the shared advice and ideas they'll learn."
The Business Coffee Club is for home-based business owners, sole traders and anyone considering starting a business from home. Each session pairs practical insights with the chance to meet people who understand the realities of working independently.
