Business Health Checks Expand in Wollongong for 2025

Are you a small business owner who could benefit from a free business consultation? It's an opportunity headed your way, with the in-demand Free Business Health Checks program expanding its reach to new locations across Wollongong in 2025.

Delivered in partnership with Enterprise Plus through the Service NSW Business Connect program, and supported by Wollongong City Council, the program provides one-on-one consultations with independent business expert Gabrielle Browne.

The sessions cover everything from marketing and staffing, to planning, finance, and strategy, providing the type of guidance and support that only larger corporations would typically receive. Sessions are confidential and fully funded.

Originally held at Council's Administration Building in the Wollongong CBD, the program was expanded to Thirroul and Dapto in 2024, making it easier for businesses outside the city centre to access personalised support.

The program will expand further in 2025, with sessions to also be held in Helensburgh and Port Kembla. Gabrielle will also be running a series of specialist workshops to help businesses upskill as part of a broadened 2025 program.

The first workshop will be on smart ways to use Artificial Intelligence in business, held at Thirroul Library on 15 May 5-8pm. The workshop is designed to help small businesses leverage AI to save time, cut costs, and improve decision-making. To book, visit: Business Connect | Service NSW

"We know how important small businesses are to our local economy and our community," Wollongong Lord Mayor Councillor Tania Brown said.

"These health checks offer business owners a chance to take a step back and look at their operations with expert guidance – and it's free! I'm really pleased to see the program expand into more suburbs, making it easier for more people to get the support they need."

Mark Grimson, Wollongong City Council's Manager of Economic Development, said the strong response from local businesses has driven the expansion.

"Since the beginning, we've seen these sessions book out quickly—there's clearly a demand for this kind of practical, local advice," he said.

"By continuing to grow the program into new areas, we're helping ensure that support is accessible, no matter what level your business is at."
