Tasmanian businesses have had a strong start to the new year, with our State recording the second highest jobs growth in the country for the start of 2022.
The ABS payroll jobs data released today showed a 1.5 per cent increase in the first two weeks of January, proving our clear plan to support jobs and our economy throughout the pandemic is working.
Jobs are now 1.7 per cent higher than a year ago, which was the second-equal highest growth rate in the country, and we will do all we can to keep this momentum going.
The NAB Business Survey for January found that Tasmanian businesses continue to have some of the best conditions in the nation, and this is translating into more growth and more jobs.
January job vacancy data released yesterday by the National Skills Commission shows that businesses are hiring, with 72.6 per cent more jobs advertised now than before the pandemic – which is again the second highest growth rate in the country.
There is no doubt our economy entered the pandemic in a position of strength and we have worked hard to maintain this.
Tasmanians have responded by doing the right thing, getting vaccinated and supporting local businesses, allowing us to reopen as one of the safest places in the world.
Our economy is nation-leading, employment is at near-record levels, and our unemployment rate is at its lowest level on record.
We will continue to do all we can support Tasmanians, our businesses and industries to grow and create more jobs as we secure our future.
