Byron Creek Bridge Inspection Set for April

Structural analysis of the Byron Creek Bridge on Bangalow Road is due to take place from Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 April (weather permitting). One lane of traffic will be open under traffic control and road users are being asked to allow extra travel time. Work hours will be 7am to 5pm and signage will be in place.

The bridge was damaged by a fire underneath it on Friday 9 January. It was reopened to vehicles with a weight up to 6.5 tonnes in early February. Specialist structural engineers need to do a structural analysis and remediation design before it can be repaired, and heavier vehicles can use the bridge again.

"Before we can complete repairs to the bridge so that heavy vehicles can use it again, this work needs to take place. We thank everyone for their patience," Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said.

Repairs to the bridge are planned for late 2026.
