Drainage upgrades on Byron Street are progressing well, with the work site now extended from Williams Lane to Fletcher Street.
Work will continue on Byron Street, before this section of the project is finalised and work moves into the intersection of Byron Street and Fletcher Street.
"As we progress down Byron Street there'll be a few changes to accessing the road, that people need to be aware of," said Christopher Soulsby, Manager Assets and Major Projects.
Key changes include:
- No vehicle access from Byron Street to Fletcher Street.
- No vehicle access from Byron Street to Williams Lane.
- Pedestrians will need to follow traffic control/signage to access businesses.
"Byron Street is still accessible by foot, and we encourage you to continue supporting businesses in the town centre. We're on the home stretch now, with Byron Street expected to be completed by November this year," said Mr Soulsby.
"Line marking on Jonson Street has also recently been completed and we've added five new car parking spaces near the Visitors Centre," said Mr Soulsby.
The clock tower on Byron Street will be reinstated after works are complete later this year.
The Byron Drainage Upgrade aims to reduce the impacts and frequency of flooding in the town centre. Some road surface and footpaths in the town centre are also being improved as part of this project.
The Byron Bay Drainage Upgrade Town Centre Catchment is funded by the Australian and NSW Governments and by Byron Shire Council's Byron Bay Town Centre Masterplan Reserve.
