The City has released an independent Panel report that considers two major long-term land use strategies.
Amendment C395 seeks to implement the Geelong-wideSettlement Strategy and the Northern and Western Geelong Growth Areas Framework Plan into the planning scheme.
The Panel report was finalised following 28 days of hearings and the consideration of 102 public submissions.
The Panel found:
• The Amendment is a well-considered and visionary response to logically cater for this predicted growth;
• There was a high level of support for the overall direction of the Amendment, and particularly the Framework Plan; and
• The refocusing of long-term growth away from the Bellarine Peninsula requires further consideration of long term or permanent settlement boundaries.
The report notes that the strategy includes a policy of focusing future growth towards the Northern and Western Geelong Growth Areas and Armstrong Creek.
The Panel report will be made available at www.geelongaustralia.com.au and all submitters will be notified.
Council adopted the City of Greater Geelong Settlement Strategy in October 2018, with the NWGGA Framework Plan adopted in March 2019.
Amendment C395 seeks to implement the documents into the Greater Geelong Planning Scheme.
It is anticipated that the Council will consider the Panel's recommendations and decide if it adopts the amendment at an August 2020 meeting.
