Cabinet Paper: New Census Data Collection Proposal

The following Cabinet paper, briefings and minutes of decision outline key decisions to release the public consultation document on the approach and content for the census, following Cabinet's endorsement of the Government Statistician's in-principle decision on the future of census in May 2025.

The following papers have been approved for proactive release by the Minister of Statistics, Hon Dr Shane Reti:

  • Report of the Cabinet Social Outcomes Committee: Period Ended 17 October 2025 (CAB-25-MIN-0361), 20 October 2025.
