Call for Affordable Housing Proposals

Wollongong City Council has put out a call to not-for-profit Community Housing Providers for proposals to help deliver affordable housing in Wollongong. The proposal or proposals considered successful by Council will be awarded Federal funding, up to $5.2 million.

Copies of the Invitation for Proposal are available via Council's e Tendering portal.

An information session for interested providers will be held at 3pm on 8 August at Council's Administration Building, 41 Burelli Street, Wollongong.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that Council was particularly interested in proposals that included a focus on single women aged over 50. "I believe all people have a right to shelter however, this group has been identified as a group that is at a higher risk of homelessness," Cr Bradbery said.

"We're also keen to see proposals that are able to self-sustain so that the program can be continued or expanded beyond the initial funding."

Proposals must address the selection criteria laid out in the Invitation for Proposal and be received by 10 am on 26 August 2019. The panel will create a shortlist with those shortlisted being invited to submit an expression of interest.

This program will use funds provided by the Federal Government as part of a 2012 funding agreement that led to Council establishing the West Dapto Home Deposit Program - which was intended to improve affordability of housing in the area for low to moderate income earners. Sharp increases in land and house values across the region impacted on low to moderate income earners ability to access the scheme.

Council has entered an arrangement with the Federal Government to facilitate the delivery of affordable housing in the region with the funds. This call for proposals will deliver on that agreement.
