The child sustained no visible injuries and was transported to the Alice Springs Hospital for observation.

The man has been charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Aggravated Recklessly endanger serious harm and is due to appear before court today.

Police urge anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information that may assist in this investigation to contact them on 131 444 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

At the time of the incident the man, who is described as being of Aboriginal appearance, was wearing a green shirt and black pants.
