Call for witnesses - Assault with intent to steal - Winnellie

Northern Territory Police are calling for witnesses in relation to an assault with intent to steal.

A male entered a Winnellie service station today around 5pm claiming to be armed with a firearm and demanding cash from the attendant, who refused. No firearm was produced and the male fled the scene empty handed, Northern Territory Police say.

The attendant was able to leave the service station without incident and report the matter to police who responded and are currently investigating.

The man was wearing a hi vis yellow and dark blue shirt with short sleeves, dark long pants, a black cap and dark runners. He was also carrying a dark coloured sports bag slung across his body. Another yellow tshirt was wrapped around his neck and face to conceal his identity.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the vicinity at the time to please contact them on 131 444, or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.
