Camden Council has secured more than $2.17 million in grant funding for four projects that will improve pedestrian and bicycle access and road safety across the Camden area.
The funding, endorsed by Council at its Ordinary Council Meeting last night, includes $1.52 million from the NSW Government's Get NSW Active Program and $648,084 through the Australian Government Black Spot Program, administered by Transport for NSW.
The projects being delivered are:
- Hilder Street, Elderslie - $403,062 for a bicycle and pedestrian raised crossing near Elderslie High School;
- South Circuit and Podium Way, Oran Park - $800,000 for wombat crossings at Oran Park Primary School and Oran Park High School, with Council contributing an additional $68,000 from the Capital Works Reserve;
- Queen Street, Narellan - $318,410 for a wombat crossing near Narellan Library; and
- Cowper Drive and Old Hume Highway, Camden South - $648,084 for a deceleration lane, pedestrian refuge, footpath and sight line improvements.
The upgrades will provide safer and more accessible connections for pedestrians and cyclists, particularly around local schools and the Narellan town centre.
A Camden Council spokesperson said the funding would support important safety improvements for people moving around the Camden area.
"Keeping our community safe is one of Council's highest priorities, and these projects will make a real difference for pedestrians, cyclists, students and motorists. We're particularly pleased to secure funding for upgrades around our schools, where safe and accessible crossings are so important for children, families and the wider community."

Catherine King MP, Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government; John Graham, Minister for Transport; and The Hon. Angus Taylor MP, Member for Hume for their support in securing this funding.
The projects will be delivered across the 2026/27 and 2027/28 financial years.
