Campaspe detectives continue to investigate suspicious fire at Girgarre

Campaspe Crime Investigation Unit detectives continue to investigate a suspicious fire and the death of a number of calves that occurred on a Girgarre property earlier this month, Victoria Police say.

The fire started in two animal enclosures in a shed on the McColl Road property on 7 April at 9.30am

Emergency services extinguished the fire and a number of calves were located deceased inside.

Investigations conducted by local detectives and officers from the Department of Agriculture have revealed that the calves were in extremely bad condition or deceased prior to the fire being started.

The investigation is now focussing on the care and welfare of the calves prior to the incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
