Can't beat our Brady

We are extremely proud to announce that Queensland Police Pipes and Drums’ (QPP&D) very own drummer Brady Swann is on his way to Scotland to compete in the World Solo Drumming Championships to be held in Glasgow on Saturday October 21, Queensland Police say.

Brady Swann began learning the snare drum when he was six and was tutored by Drum Sergeant Yvonne Coustley and Liam Cox of the QPP&D. Brady was promoted to Drum Sergeant of the Junior Pipes and Drums in 2012, and began marching with the QPP&D for ANZAC Day and National Police Remembrance Day in 2013.

Brady was awarded a prestigious scholarship to St Andrew’s College, New Zealand and boarded there from 2015. In 2015, Brady travelled to Glasgow with St Andrew’s College and competed in the World Pipe Band Championships and placed fifth in the Juvenile grade. November 2015 saw Brady debut in Grade 1 with Canterbury Caledonian Pipe Band, Christchurch, and was selected as Drum Sergeant for St Andrew’s College Pipe Band for 2016 and 2017.

Brady is an accomplished player and a leader in his field. His feats include –

  • flank player of St Andrew’s College Grade 2 Best Drum Corp and NZ National Champions March 2016,
  • winning A Grade in South Island Solo Drumming Competition September 2016
  • leading drummer of St Andrew’s College Grade 2 Best Drum Corp & NZ National Champions March 2017,
  • flank player of Canterbury Caledonian Grade 1 Best Drum Corp & NZ Champions March 2017 and
  • winning A Grade in South Island Solo Drumming Competition September 2017.
