Canada announces additional support for Global Financing Facility

Canada continues to fight poverty both at home and abroad. Making the world a better place means ensuring that everyone enjoys a strong start in life. This includes good health and nutrition, an opportunity to go to and stay in school and a chance to contribute to their families and economies.
The Honourable Marie-Claude Bibeau, Minister of International Development, today announced an additional $50 million for the Global Financing Facility (GFF) for the 2015 to 2020 period. The GFF is an innovative financing mechanism that is helping developing countries transform how they prioritize and invest in the health sector to benefit women, children and adolescents.
This funding is part of Canada's G7 commitment to addressing barriers to education faced by women and girls in fragile and conflict-affected states. With this announcement, Canada has increased its total commitment to the GFF to $290 million for the period 2015 to 2020. Canada remains committed to supporting the GFF, including the second replenishment period of 2020 to 2023.
Canada, along with the World Bank, Norway, the United Nations and other partners, co-founded the GFF in 2015. Canada remains committed to this partnership and the results it can achieve to empower women, children and adolescents and ultimately, reduce poverty.

Canada is a founding donor of the Global Financing Facility and has committed $290 million, including this new commitment of $50 million, for the period 2015 to 2020.
The GFF supports integrated service delivery and harmonizes health and nutrition interventions with other sectors, including education, to advance the health, rights and well-being of women, children and adolescents.
Canada is investing $400 million over three years to improve access and reduce barriers to quality education in fragile and conflict-affected states, in addition to $180 million Canada provided in January 2018 to the Global Partnership for Education for the period 2018 to 2020.
