Canada Pledges $25K to Boost Sudbury Tourism

Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario - FedNor

FedNor funding to further position Greater Sudbury as a premier destination for curling enthusiasts

Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, today announced a FedNor investment of $25,000 to allow Curl Sudbury to host two national curling events in Greater Sudbury. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for FedNor.

Provided through FedNor's Northern Ontario Development Program (NODP), this investment is helping Curl Sudbury bring the U20 Canadian Curling Championships to the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex this week, March 28-April 4, 2026. It also allowed Curl Sudbury to host the U21 Canadian Mixed Doubles Championship in Sudbury from March 24-27, 2026. Families, fans, and athletes from across Canada traveled to Sudbury to attend both events, which helped fill hotels, restaurants, local shops and attractions.

This is first time Sudbury had the privilege to host these prestigious Curling Canada events, which bring together our nation's top young curlers vying for a national championship, with the winners earning the right to represent Canada on the world stage. Curling is experiencing a significant boom in global popularity and is considered a hidden gem that attracts visitors, guests and sport enthusiasts to communities across the country. With new clubs forming and interest growing in traditional and non-traditional curling strongholds, Curl Sudbury is poised to capitalize on this opportunity to recruit new members and attract more high-profile curling events to the community.
