Québec, Quebec - The Canadian Coast Guard wishes to inform the public that between January 15 and March 31, 2021, it will be felling trees on île Saint‑Ours, located in the Îles de Contrecoeur National Wildlife Area, to clear the visibility corridor of the route de Contrecoeur LL 2290-2291 range lights.
The work will facilitate visual access to these aids to navigation, which are essential to the safety of mariners. Currently, the aids are almost completely obstructed between the southern and northern strips of the navigation channel.
Measures will be taken to limit and mitigate damage to banks and the environment. Environment and Climate Change Canada is the site manager and has granted a permit.
Consider that a vessel needs to change course no less than 55 times between the city of Québec and Montréal. The Canadian Coast Guard's 51 range lights located in this portion of the St. Lawrence River help mariners determine which direction of travel to follow.
