Cannabis and alcohol seized - Wurrumiyanga

A 23-year-old male has been issued a Notice to Appear after he was allegedly found in possession of 185 grams of cannabis and two litres of alcohol in Wurrumiyanga.

The male is also alleged to have evaded police in Darwin by fleeing to a ferry bound for the remote community, before members in Wurrumiyanga found the prohibited items in the male’s possession upon his arrival, Northern Territory Police say.

The seven clip seal bags containing the cannabis each weighed between 25 and 32 grams, with a value of approximately $5550.

Under the Liquor Act, Wurrumiyanga is an Alcohol Restricted Zone and it is an offence to bring alcohol into the community without a permit.

Acting Senior Sergeant David Young said to reduce harm to the community, police will not back down on finding and seizing drugs and alcohol.

"Despite the attempted use of concealment methods, offenders will always be targeted by police," he said.

"We are committed to doing what it takes to stop drug and alcohol related harm to families, individuals and especially children."
