- Sony Pictures Classics has acquired all rights in North America and Latin America to family drama "Toni Erdmann" following its premiere in competition at the Cannes Film Festival, Variety reports.
The German film, written and directed by Maren Ade, stars Peter Simonischek and Sandra Hüller and is produced by Ade, Jonas Dornbach, Janine Jackowski and Michel Merkt. It’s co-produced by Bruno Wagner, Antonin Svoboda, David Keitsch and Sebastian Schipper, and executive produced by Ada Solomon.
Simonischek plays a character who disguises himself as the flashy "Toni Erdmann" to get the attention of his busy daughter, played by Hüller, in order to change her corporate lifestyle. The father-daughter challenge reaches absurd proportions until the daughter begins to see that her eccentric father deserves a place in her life.
Sony Classics made the deal with Match Factory.

Match Factory has teamed with Sony Classics previously on "Waltz with Bashir," "Fill the Void" and "The Lunchbox," Weber added.
