The view from Cannon Hill has been restored.
A small copse of Casuarina trees was recently removed from Cannon Hill which has opened up the view across Lake Pertobe.
Over coming weeks the tree stumps will be removed and the trees will be replaced with several species of low-growing native shrubs, including the endemic Granny's Grave correa.
"Councillors had feedback from the community telling us that they would like to have the view of Lake Pertobe from Cannon Hill reinstated," Warrnambool Mayor Tony Herbert said.
"Cannon Hill provides one of our city's great views. You can see the wonderful Lake Pertobe created by an earlier generation across to the sea and Breakwater. It's a view that is enjoyed by residents and by visitors to our city.
"I've enjoyed the view for many years and Councillors have been very supportive of ensuring that it (the view) is returned to the way it was and the way our city's early planners had designed.
"It's a viewing platform."
Over recent years there have been ongoing native plantings on Cannon Hill and Council has also removed a number of cypress trees to help maintain the view and to tip the balance towards native plants being the dominant vegetation type in the area.
