A Capalaba man was moved to tears this morning after discovering his $1.6 million Saturday Gold Lotto win, grateful for the chance to share the moment with his beloved wife of 67 years.

The Redland resident held one of the four division one winning entries nationally in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4597, drawn Saturday 9 August 2025. He takes home $1,668,614.99.

So far in 2025, there have been four major lottery wins in the Redland region that have collectively taken home more than $4.9 million in prize money.

The winning entry wasn't registered to The Lott Members Club, meaning we had to wait for the ticketholder to check their ticket and come forward.

The gleeful retiree was shocked to learn this morning he had become a millionaire.

"This is wonderful! My wife is in a nursing home, and this will help us so much. We've been married for 67 incredible years," he cried.

"We have heaps of expenses, and I can't even begin to describe how good this is.

"I've been playing for years and years, and I never expected to win.

"I can't wait to tell one of my daughters the good news.

"Thank you very much. You have made my day!"

His winning entry was purchased at Mount Cotton Road News, 159 Mt Cotton Road, Capalaba.

Mount Cotton Road News owner Meg Reilly shared she was thrilled to hear her outlet had sold a division one winning entry in the weekend's draw and made someone a newly-minted millionaire.

"The entire team has been buzzing with excitement knowing we sold a division one winning entry in the weekend's draw," she said.

"We're so excited for our winner and we're so glad to hear they've now checked their ticket.

"We'll be celebrating in-store with plenty of cheers, balloons and signs.

"Over the past 12 years, we've been fortunate enough to sell four division one winning entries, and it never gets any less exciting.

"Congratulations to our winner. You're now a millionaire!"
