Car crashes into Sturt Police Station, SA

No one was injured when a car crashed into the front of the Sturt Police Station overnight, according to SA Police.

About 2am on Wednesday 4 May, a silver Toyota Corolla crashed through two automated glass doors at the station's entry.  Police officers inside the station were not injured during the incident.

The driver, a 35-year-old Morphettville man, was immediately apprehended.  He was checked over at the scene by paramedics, but not physically injured.  He was conveyed to the Flinders Medical Centre where he has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Despite the extensive damage to the entry, there is no structural damage to the building.

Police will continue to operate from the station today.  A Police Operations Vehicle is expected to be parked in front of the station to handle urgent enquiries, but it is recommended that the public attend other police stations for non-urgent business today, if possible.
