A car bulbar, shopping trollies and even a small fridge were among the items collected during this year's Great Northern Clean Up.
Almost 350 volunteers across 20 Council-led sites collected about 50 wheelie bin loads of rubbish during last month's massive clean-up action.
Ellis Beach attracted the most volunteers, 55 in total, while the most bags of rubbish collected (56) was in Manunda.
Cairns Mayor Bob Manning said every year, communities across Northern Australia take part in the Clean Up, which reduces the amount of litter in the environment and prevents it from being washed into the sea or blocking drains in the upcoming wet season.
"The Great Northern Clean Up is a chance for everyone to show just how much they value our environment," Cr Manning said.
"I would like to thank the hundreds of volunteers who pitched in over the past month to make sure our region is the best it can be."
The list of items collected included confetti and biodegrading plastics, dummies, two televisions, scrap metal, footwear, cigarette butts, tyres, bikes, pallets, tarps, toilet seats, straws, plastic bags and plastic wrappers, crab pots, drink containers, a beanbag and signs.
Each year, plastic is the most prevalent litter item found by clean up volunteers.
To help turn the tide on plastic, residents are encouraged to seek out plastic alternatives and 'do the right thing' when it comes to responsible disposal of litter.
