Car spiked after aggravated robbery, South Australia

A man has been arrested in Mambray Creek after stealing a car in Para Vista today.

Just after 10am Monday 24 February police were called to Milne Road in Para Vista after a man allegedly assaulted an elderly woman and stole her silver 1997 Mitsubishi Magna.

The victim, an 80-year-old Para Vista woman, received minor injuries. Police searched the area for the car but did not locate it.

Just after 1pm the stolen Mitsubishi was seen speeding and driving erratically on the Augusta Highway between Red Hill and Crystal Brook. The car continued north before it was successfully spiked by police around Port Germein.

The car kept driving until about 1.50pm it came to a stop at Mambray Creek. The driver and sole occupant ran from the vehicle but was quickly chased down and arrested by patrols without incident.

The 22-year-old Port Augusta West man is expected to be charged with a number of serious offences including aggravated robbery and driving offences. He will be refused bail and will appear in the Port Pirie Magistrates Court on Tuesday 25 February.
