Car stolen, teens arrested in Mayfield

Two teens were arrested after a stolen car crashed into a fully marked police vehicle in Mayfield today, NSW Police say.

Shortly before 2am (Saturday 7 April 2018) a white Toyota Camry was allegedly reported stolen in Mayfield.

Shortly after 2.30am (Saturday 7 April 2018) police from Newcastle City Police District while patrolling in Mayfield sighted a white Toyota Camry on Turton Road.

A second police vehicle continued to follow the vehicle along Upfold Street. The Toyota Camry has

allegedly crashed head-on into the police vehicle on Braye Street.

Four youths exited the vehicle and ran away.

Two youths travelling in the Camry were arrested and taken to Waratah Police Station.

A 15-year-old boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner to appear at a Children’s Court on Monday 14 May 2018.

A 12-year-old boy was arrested and inquiries into the matter continue.

The two remaining youths, who were seated in the rear of the vehicle, ran from the scene and inquiries are continuing to locate them.

A Senior Constable received treatment at John Hunter Hospital for an injury sustained to her head during the incident. Two police officers also sustained minor whiplash injuries.
