Three girls have been arrested and one will face a children's court after an alleged car theft and pursuit in the state's west at the weekend.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District patrolling the West Tamworth area about 9pm yesterday (Sunday 21 December 2025), when they allege three youths were seen in a station wagon – which had been reported stolen some hours earlier – on Warral Road.
When the driver allegedly failed to obey a direction to stop, a pursuit was initiated, which then headed towards Dampier Street.
Police continued to follow the station wagon before it crashed into a steel fence near Gidley Siding Road, before continuing towards the Oxley Highway.
The station wagon eventually came to a stop near Applyby Lane and the three female occupants of the vehicle – one aged 15 and two aged 12 – were arrested. No injuries were reported to any of the occupants.
All three were taken to Tamworth Police Station where one of the 12-year-old girls was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed, and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner.
She was granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Tuesday 3 Febraury 2026.
The other two girls were dealt with under the Young Offenders Act.
