A woman has been charged over the alleged serious assault of a young child in her care earlier this year, NSW Police say.
About 7pm on Tuesday 28 June 2016, emergency services were called to a home at Parkes following reports a five-year-old girl had been injured.
Police from Lachlan Local Area Command attended and located the young girl with serious injuries.
The girl was taken by NSW Ambulance Paramedics to Parkes District Hospital, before being airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital for specialised treatment.
Another child – a 10-month-old boy – was removed from the home and placed in the care of the Department of Family and Community Services.
Detectives from State Crime Command’s Child Abuse Squad commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s injuries.
Following extensive investigations, a 30-year-old woman was arrested at a home at Parkes, about 11.45am yesterday.
She was taken Parkes Police Station and charged with two counts of recklessly inflict grievous bodily harm.
The woman was granted bail and is due to appear at Parkes Local Court on Monday 19 September 2016.
The Child Abuse Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate crimes against children, including sexual assault, physical abuse and serious cases of neglect.
