Carers Sought For New Advisory Group

  • Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers

Carers across Victoria are encouraged to participate in a new body advising the Andrews Labor Government on carer needs.

Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan today announced the opening of expressions of interest for those wanting to take part in the new Victorian Carer Advisory Group.

The group will provide leadership on the rights, needs and preferences of carers and implementation of the government's Victorian Carer Strategy, the first whole-of-government strategy recognising carers.

Advice on particular groups in the carer community - such as younger, older, Aboriginal, LGBTI and culturally diverse carers - will be especially valued.

Chaired by Parliamentary Secretary for Carers Anthony Carbines, the group will comprise carers and representatives from carer organisations.

The group will meet twice a year. Members will be appointed for twelve months with the option of reappointment for a further year.

Carers interested in submitting an expression of interest should go to: www2.health.vic.gov.au/victorian-carers

Expressions of interest close on 25 September 2019.

Victoria has more than 736,000 carers giving their time and effort to look after a family member or friend who needs them.

As stated by Minister for Disability, Ageing and Carers Luke Donnellan

"Advice from the carers community is highly valued, and we look forward to working with carer representatives to deliver the support that Victorian carers need."

"I encourage carers of all backgrounds from across Victoria to put in expressions of interest to participate in this important new body."

As stated by Parliamentary Secretary for Carers and Volunteers Anthony Carbines

"Providing better support for carers is a key priority for us and the Carer Advisory Group will help us get that right."
