Griffith Regional Art Gallery is pleased to be hosting Carrathool, a new exhibition by local artist Gerard Brown, opening Friday 12 September 2025 at 6pm. Featuring paintings inspired by his life as a farmer and horseman. Brown's work offers a striking portrayal of the legendary Carrathool race day.
Drawing on his years breeding and training racehorses, as well as his experience facilitating life drawing sessions for artists, Brown brings both intimacy and grandeur to his subjects. His paintings capture the horses, jockeys and race-goers set against the treeless plains of the region, where the spectacle of the sport of kings and queens unfolds against a stark, unforgiving landscape. The result is a body of work that is both celebratory and contemplative, immersing viewers in the unique atmosphere of one of the Riverina's most storied events.

The public is invited to attend the official opening event on Friday 12 September at 6pm, where guests can explore the exhibition while enjoying light refreshments. The exhibition will be on display from Saturday 13 September through to Sunday 19 October 2025.
