CAs Ng Discusses Trade, Development with Finlands Tavio

Global Affairs Canada

Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Export Promotion, International Trade and Economic Development, met with Ville Tavio, Finland's Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, who just completed a trade mission to Nova Scotia.

During the meeting, Minister Ng underscored the importance of the Canada-Finland bilateral relationship and Canada's desire to build on these already strong commercial relations, particularly in areas of mutual interest such as the green transition and sustainable extraction of critical minerals.

The ministers agreed that the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) has delivered strong results since Finland's ratification in May 2018. CETA has supported businesses in both countries that are expanding in strategic sectors such as advanced telecommunications, the bioeconomy and the global, electric vehicle battery supply chain.

As Canada and Finland are trusted partners that respect rules-based international trade and investment, the ministers discussed global economic security and resilience. They also reflected on both countries' strong commitment to Ukraine and the importance of working together to support its recovery and reconstruction.
