Casey businesses shine at 2021 Business Awards

Berwick based business Australian Precision Technologies (APT) has been named City of Casey Business of the Year at the Casey Business Awards, which were held at Bunjil Place last night.

Specialising in high precision manufacturing, APT have become one of the top 5 per cent industry leaders in Australia's advanced manufacturing sector and have proudly remained a Casey-based business since establishing in 1992.

The judging panel highlighted APT's exceptional performance as a business across many aspects, including contributing locally, sustainability and being an accessible organisation, and noted their "contribution in their field extends state-wide, nationally and with strong capabilities to extend internationally."

As Casey Business of the Year, APT received a $2,000 cash prize. The local company also took home the Innovation Category Award. Category winners each received a $1,000 cash prize.

The winners were:

The awards are an opportunity for Council to celebrate and recognise the outstanding achievements and contribution of Casey's strong and diverse business community, and also provides an opportunity for local businesses to come together and build a vibrant local business network.

City of Casey Chair of Administrators Noelene Duff PSM congratulated all the local businesses who had taken part in the awards, and in particular this year's winners.

Ms Duff also thanked this year's judges, Judy Pridmore, Rovel Shackleford, Kathy Racunica and Andrea O'Bryan for their generous time and expertise offered in assessing every application and the constructive feedback provided to each entrant.

"There has been so much uncertainty for businesses in recent times and I commend all the participants who took the time to reflect on their businesses achievements and enter this year's awards," Ms Duff said.

"We had 81 businesses enter this year's awards and I hope that every one of them has found this to be a valuable and rewarding experience - to go through the process of self-evaluation and receive constructive feedback about their business from our judges.

"Our local businesses are such a vital part of the Casey community and when they enjoy success and growth, the entire Casey community also benefits from more local jobs, increased services and a stronger, future-proofed local economy."

Resilience Category Winner - Powerplant Project Services

Powerplant Project Services operates as a consultancy business in the power industry, providing customers with design and project management services for connection, alteration or augmentation of electricity supplies, and for establishment of street lighting, car park lighting or sports field lighting.

The company completes design plans to connect electricity supply to subdivisions, to relocate electricity assets for major road and rail projects, and to keep electricity network assets safe and secure with customers including land developers, government and network owners and operators.

What the judges had to say:

"Some enterprises stand out when it comes to weathering the challenges thrown at them, such as the recent COVID experience. Through all of this, Powerplant Project Services Pty Ltd did more than soldier on. The business has been dynamic and quickly moved to embed innovation into the delivery of its service model to its customers and supply chain. There is definitely evidence of the fact that resilience was delivered through strong and bold leadership and as a consequence, delivered ongoing resilience into the enterprise for the future."

Business Leadership Category Winner - Blairlogie Living & Learning Inc

Blairlogie Living & Learning is an innovative community-based provider of holistic services and support for people with a disability aged between five and 65 years, working to enhance each person's opportunities for learning, growth and community participation.

Based in Cranbourne South, Blairlogie Living and Learning is a registered provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and provides services to approximately 300 people living with a disability across South East Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula.

What the judges had to say:

Berwick Dental Studio was founded with the vision of offering dental care that is relaxing, bespoke and on the cutting-edge of technology. The team have built their values, processes and team work from the ground up.
