Casey Declares NO to Gender Violence: 16-Day Activism

The City of Casey is proud to stand with communities across the globe in support of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign. Running from 25 November to 10 December, this international initiative, backed by over 6,000 organisations from approximately 187 countries, calls for an end to gender-based violence and promotes safety, respect, and equality for all.

City of Casey mayor Cr Stefan Koomen said, "Every person in our community deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued and I'm proud to be part of this important campaign. The City of Casey stands united in saying NO to violence and these 16 days are a powerful reminder that change is possible when we stand together."

The statistics remind us why this campaign is important:

• Nationally, 1 in 4 women and 1 in 14 men have experienced intimate partner violence.

• 1 in 3 women in Australia have experienced family or domestic violence in their lifetime.

• Victoria Police respond to a family violence incident every five minutes.

These numbers are more than statistics; they represent lives impacted. That's why Casey is committed to highlighting this campaign and working together for change.

During the 16 Days of Activism, Casey will launch a powerful campaign featuring the message: "Casey says NO to violence." A video will be played at Bunjil Place forecourt, featuring interviews with Councillors, faith leaders, and Victoria Police officers, amplifying the message that violence has no place in our homes, streets, or community.

Resources and support services will also be promoted throughout the campaign, ensuring that victims and survivors of family violence know that help is available and where it can be found. Asking for help is a sign of strength and support is always on hand.

Together, we can build a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.
