The Minns Government is inviting communities across NSW to take part in Gone Fishing Day on Sunday 19 October, to celebrate the joy of fishing and explore the incredible fishing opportunities NSW has to offer.
The NSW Government will host free community events throughout the state, designed for everyone from first timers to seasoned fishers, the chance to enjoy a day of fishing fun with family and friends.
NSW is home to world-class fishing locations, from tranquil inland waterways to vibrant coastal spots and Gone Fishing Day is the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, cast a line, and make the most of these stunning destinations.
Gone Fishing Day events hosted by DPIRD will be held in Sydney (Mort Bay Park), Evans Head (Clarrie Kirkland Reserve), Gosford (Lions Park), Forbes (Lake Forbes Waterpark), and Inverell (Campbell Park), with activities kicking off at 9am.
Experienced and aspiring fishers are invited to come along to the free fishing sessions and casting lessons. There will also be experts on hand to provide fishing advice, as well as some free fishing giveaways.
Fishing clubs, organisations, and community groups throughout NSW will also host local events and activities in celebration of Gone Fishing Day, supported by the NSW Government.
A total of 40 fishing clubs and organisations have received fishing packages filled with gear to support their local events, while another 44 have been awarded grants of up to $2,000 to help run their own Gone Fishing Day celebrations.
Gone Fishing Day is funded through the NSW Government's Recreational Fishing Trusts, as part of the 'Fish for life - Building a healthy fishing future' initiative.

"First-time fishers will find everything they need to build lifelong hobby at the Gone Fishing Day events, from beginner-friendly workshops to helpful resources and even a few free giveaways.
"Recreational fishing is a $3.4 billion industry and supports thousands of jobs across the state, proving fishing is so much more than a pastime and its vital role in our communities should be celebrated."
