The Hills Shire Council has unveiled plans for the upgrade of the Aub Juleff Arena, the centrepiece of Castle Hill Showground, enhancing its status as one of The Hills Shire's most important cultural and community spaces.
Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne said the project will transform the 136-year-old arena and surrounds into a dynamic, multipurpose space that honours its historic role as a place for community gathering, showcasing talent, and fostering competition.
"Castle Hill Showground has been the centre of this community for generations and these works will ensure that continues for many years to come," Mayor Byrne said.
"This transformative project provides an opportunity to build on that legacy while enhancing the facilities for broad community benefit.
"With the population of the Hills Shire forecast to increase by more than 71 per cent in the next 15 years, it is vital our infrastructure is upgraded. This project will help meet the needs of existing users and our growing community."
As part of the grant funding, the project will deliver:
- A renovated arena field designed as a flexible, multipurpose grassed space capable of supporting a wide range of activities and events.
- New shade structures and spectator seating to improve comfort and viewing opportunities.
- A viewing mound with bleachers thoughtfully integrated into the surrounding landscape.
- Plazas offering welcoming spaces for people to sit, gather and socialise.
- A reconfigured and formalised internal road with car parking to increase parking capacity and improve functionality, safety and access.
- Improved pedestrian connections and enhanced accessibility across the site.
- New drainage and irrigation systems to support the long‑term performance of the arena field.
"Located right next door to Hills Showground Metro station, the arena is in a prime location for Hills residents to access the reimagined space," Mayor Byrne said.
"I'm particularly excited that the revamp will provide a contemporary new space where community groups, families, friends and young people can gather for meaningful connections."
This project is proudly co-funded by the NSW Government's Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) Program in partnership with Council. The WSIG Program is delivering $2 billion of transformational infrastructure across Western Sydney - with $11.475 million dedicated to the Castle Hill Showground Arena Upgrade.
Residents are invited to explore the design documentation available on Council's website. The design includes additional components that are subject to further funding, including new pavilions featuring modern amenities comprising of function rooms, new bathrooms, change facilities, a kitchen, kiosk and more.
