Castlemaine culprits chase cash and chocolate

Central Goldfields Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating after hooded thieves broke into a Castlemaine petrol station this morning, taking cash and various items, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told at least three people, all wearing hoodies, attended the Johnstone Street premises shortly before 2am.

Two of the offenders, believed to be males, got out of the car and smashed their way through the locked front doors.

Once inside, they stole an amount of cash, cigarette lighters and chocolates, before fleeing in the waiting car.

No one else was inside the store at the time.

The car is described as a dark Holden Commodore.

Police have released CCTV footage of two men who they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
