Cat 255 Declaration Extends To All Qld And NSW

The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) has today extended the dates and postcodes of the severe storm and hail activity that has impacted Queensland and New South Wales over the past week, now including all postcodes in both states from 20 November to 27 November 2025.

Across these regions, insurers have received more than 44,600 claims for Cat 255 - to now be known as 'Qld and NSW Severe Storms and Hail'.

The extended declaration recognises the ongoing and widespread severe storms that have impacted the east coast over the past eight days causing significant home, motor and commercial losses.

As the prevailing weather system has impacted many communities across a very large area, expanding the definition of the event ensures all impacted customers are accounted for and the additional support they may need is available.

Insurers have established an on-the-ground presence in multiple impacted communities, including Bribie Island, Logan and Brisbane, with this support expanding to further parts of Moreton Bay from Monday.

As the damage continues to be assessed and claims counts grow, the ICA, in consultation with insurers, will assess other regions who may require localised in-person support.
