The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has released its 2018-2019 Annual Report of the Council. The report outlines the Centre's significant accomplishments, and milestones reached as the centre advocated for the total physical and psychological health and well-being of working people in Canada.
The report, which focused on the period April 1, 2018, to March 31, 2019, showed significant growth in CCOHS' reach and impact on workers across the country. Key highlights from the report include:
- The CCOHS website, a core vehicle used to deliver the centre's information and services, received over 12.2 million visits, from 9.2 million people. 28% of site usage originated in Canada, (78% of the visits were to the English website, and 22% were to the French language website).
- The online fact sheets, OSH Answers, had over 10.7 million visits (up 12.6% over the previous year), with 25% of those visits originating within Canada. Also, the OSH Answers mobile app had 10,358 downloads for a total of 30,691 downloads since its launch in 2016.
- The free, confidential and bilingual person-to-person service, Safety InfoLine, provided advice and assistance to 8,252 people. A survey revealed that 85% of users of the service were very satisfied with the information they received. 66% of users said the information they received would lead to workplace changes designed to improve health and safety.
- The collection of 120 online courses on topics ranging from physical hazards to psychosocial risks saw a 60% growth in e-course sales, with a total of 234,359-course seats purchased. The free courses offered by CCOHS were accessed 70,117 times, a 49% increase from the previous year.
- In March 2019, CCOHS hosted a two-day tripartite, national event, Forum 2019: The Changing World of Work, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The event brought experts, employers, labour, and government change-makers together to explore health and safety challenges emerging from changes in society, technology, and work organization. A survey of the attendees revealed that 100% were satisfied with the knowledge enrichment of the forum, and 88.6% said they would be able to apply what they learned to their workplace.
