CCTV released after man seriously assaulted in Melbourne

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are appealing for public assistance after a man was seriously assaulted in Melbourne’s CBD last Friday, Victoria Police say.

Police have been told the man was walking along Birrarung Marr near Batman Avenue when he was involved in an altercation and assaulted by an unknown person about 4am.

It is believed the man, aged in his 60s then stumbled to Batman Avenue where he was found by a passer-by about 7.30am and taken to hospital.

The Avondale Heights man received serious head injuries and a stab wound to the upper body and will remain in hospital for some time.

Detectives have released a composite image of a man they believe can assist with their enquiries and a bag similar to what this man was carrying at the time of the assault.

Investigators have also released CCTV and are keen to speak to anyone that was walking along Birrarung Marr between 4am and 7am on Friday 25 August.
