CCTV Released After Suspicious Newcastle Car Fire

Detectives have released CCTV of a vehicle as an investigation continues into a suspicious fire near Newcastle last month.

Just after midnight on Friday 23 January 2026, emergency services were called to a business on Albert Street, Wickham, after reports of smoke coming from the building.

Fire and Rescue NSW attended and found a fire burning on the ground floor.

The fire was extinguished and officers from Newcastle City Police District established a crime scene, which was forensically examined.

Newcastle detectives commenced inquiries into the incident under Strike Force Halesworth.

The incident is thought to be related to a similar suspicious fire at the same premises on the night of Tuesday 20 January 2026.

Detectives have earlier released CCTV of two men seen in the area at the time of the second fire.

The first male was described as medium height and build, wearing long pants, a hooded jumper and joggers.

The second male was described as medium to thin build, wearing long pants, hooded jumper, socks and slides.

Detectives have now released CCTV of a light-coloured older-model Toyota Corolla hatchback seen the area at the time of the incident; police wish to speak with the driver and any occupants as they believe they may have information to assist investigators.
