CCTV released in armed carjacking appeal - Leichhardt

Detectives have released CCTV as part of an ongoing investigation into an armed carjacking in Sydney's inner-west last year.

About 4.50pm on Thursday 20 August 2020, a 30-year-old man was sitting in a Range Rover on Tebbutt Street, Leichhardt, when an unknown man opened the passenger door and sat next to him.

The man produced a firearm and threatened the driver, telling him to get out of the vehicle.

The armed man drove off and a black Mercedes parked nearby was seen following the Range Rover from the scene.

Detectives from Leichhardt Police Area Command established Strike Force Deenyi to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, the stolen Range Rover was recovered from Bunnerong Road, Matraville, on Sunday 15 November 2020, and seized for forensic examination.

Investigators have now released CCTV of the vehicles as part of inquiries and urge members of the community who may have information to come forward.

The armed man is described as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, of slim build, with his hair in a bun and the underside shaved.

He has tattoos on both arms and at the time of the incident was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.

The Mercedes Benz is described as being an E200 sedan 2016-2019 model.
