Western Australia is today celebrating the International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD), with events held across the State.
The United Nations-sanctioned IDPwD celebrates the achievements and contribution of people with disability, with a focus on striving for inclusivity through the removal of physical, technological and attitudinal barriers.
The theme for IDPwD in 2018 is 'empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality'.
The State Government has made $50,000 available for community activities happening this week.
Grants are designed to help raise awareness about the importance of access and inclusion for people living with disability, in line with the theme of this year's celebrations.

As stated by Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson:
"I encourage everyone to participate in this day to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of people with disability and to help break down barriers.
"An inclusive community is one that actively seeks respect for all its citizens, values diversity, ensures equitable access to resources and opportunities, and engages its citizens in decision-making processes that impact their lives.
"Government, the disability sector, the corporate sector, individuals and the community all have a role in fostering collaboration, building inclusive and accessible communities, and showcasing the diversity and enormous contribution people with disability make to our great State.
"The State Government and the disability sector are committed to ensuring quality services and the highest standard of support for people with disability, their families and their carers."
