Central West Homeowners Advised on Flood-Resilience Plan

NSW Gov

Flood-affected homeowners in the Central West are being urged to take up support to strengthen their properties against future disasters through a locally driven resilient program and community expo.

Residents who experienced any level of damage in the 2022 floods can apply for funding through the Resilient Homes Program, developed in consultation with the community and local leaders, to protect their homes from future extreme weather.

In the aftermath of the devastating 2022 floods, properties severely damaged or destroyed in the floods were prioritised for immediate support and help to apply for support to repair, relocate, raise or buyback their homes through the Resilient Homes Program.

Many of these are progressing through the program to make flood-resilient changes to their homes.

Now homeowners whose properties were less severely impacted, such as those with water through the property but not inside their home, are being encouraged to apply for support to improve the resilience of their home and minimise the impact of future floods.

This could include raising power points and appliances like outdoor air conditioning units and hot water systems and installing water-resilient materials.

Funding through the Resilient Homes Program is being distributed across the impacted areas of Cabonne, Forbes, Lachlan, Parkes and Euabalong, with more than 240 applications already received and 180 home assessments completed.

The $40 million Resilient Homes Program is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments as part of the $100 million Central West Recovery and Resilient Package.

Resilient Homes Expo

To support homeowners and industry partners navigate the grants process and learn about resilient building measures, the Reconstruction Authority is hosting a Resilient Homes Expo on Wednesday 3 September 2025.

The Expo will connect applicants with building service providers in the region and offer practical information on:

  • applying for the grants
  • navigating approval processes
  • delivering building projects.

Homeowners and business representatives are invited to visit information stands and speak with representatives from construction industry associations and businesses, council and key government agencies.

For more information on the Resilient Home Program apply online or call 1800 844 085. To register for the Expo visit the Expo webpage.

Minister for Recovery Janelle Saffin said:

"This is the next critical step in our plan to make sure the Central West is better prepared for future flood events.

"I encourage eligible homeowners to apply for this funding and connect with local businesses and the NSW Reconstruction Authority to get the support they need to build back better to minimise the impact of future disasters.

"We have and will continue to support the Central West to be a more resilient community."

Reconstruction Authority Director Central West Orana and Far West Ken Harrison said:

"We don't want a repeat of what happened back in 2022.

"Although we have been focussing on homes with severe damage, many smaller improvements and minor changes can also improve household resilience and reduce the impact and heartache of future floods.

"After listening to the community and local leaders, we've focused on supporting those most at risk - especially people who couldn't return to their homes - and those experiencing financial hardship, so they can rebuild using more resilient measures.

"We're now pleased to encourage applications from anyone affected by the 2022 floods and invite them to come and speak to us if they think they may be eligible."
